No, but I think the ability to see very fine detail or fine color 
distinctions is very important to serious birders in order to do the 
most accurate species identification.  For some of the them the price 
didn't matter since it was just an incidental expense.  But there were 
also those for whom $1,000 was a major investment but who also did it 
very willingly.
