Yes, I'm referring to these off-axis optical aberrations. It looks
like the image is tearing itself apart.

Agreed. the 35/shift renders the scene substantially differently than
the normal 35mm lenses. I have a 35/2.8 silvernose (of course), which
is one of my last two "dying-grasp" lenses. I mistakenly sold my first
one many years ago, but Tom Scales managed to have one last remaining
remnant when he sold off the inventory and I bought it from him.
