It seems to me that more recent screens aren't made of such soft materials,
so a protector isn't needed. I have tried some of the sticky plastic ones on
older cameras, but have been unimpressed. They are devilishly difficult to
get applied without any spots underneath them, and they soon become loose at
the edges.
When I got my M9, there was a lot of comments about the screen, and how soft
the screen was. I ordered one of the Giottos glass protectors. Easy to
apply, durable, and AR coated. They aren't too expensive, around $30 each I
think. Highly recommended.
The extent of my battery experience is Energizer for my first digital camera
I got around ten years ago, some Calumet brand spares for the Nikons, and a
couple of Flashpoint for the M9 from Adorama. In each case the experience is
the same: None hold a charge as long as the factory one, and none last as
long in use. However, they last longer than the price difference would
indicate, so on I go. The best of the three are the Energizer, precisely the
opposite experience from their disposables, and the worst are the
Flashpoint. The calumet ones are close to the Energizers, but a little to
ready to self discharge for a battery for a company that is mostly a pro
supply house. I have no experience with ebay brands/sellers.

1) Protecting the screen. Do they scratch easily? Is it worth doing anything
to protect the surface?
2) Spare batteries: Go with OEM or try some of the more reputable
