I came across a used one with the stud for half the retail price on eBay,
so I bought it. Looks like it will be far more versatile than adding a
clamping mount to a monopod. I saw an application where it was mounted to the
tripod head and the clamp used to hold a pole, and that's what sold me.

For now, I'll try it out with the 234RC head as I'm familiar with it and
it will screw right on with a short stud. To use the Super Clamp fully
requires a ball head, and I simply do not trust those things, not even the
Manfrotto 3262. One wrong move and everything flops to the ground.

The balancing problem is easily taken care of with a sack full of rocks,
just as Moose mentioned earlier for reducing vibration. Lots of good ideas and
suggestions on this list for solving field problems, and they are much
appreciated.
