That's certainly my situation and I've learned to live with the limitation.
Most browsers seem to allow use of f11 to get a full screen view which is
what I use for larger pictures.

Most (4x3) 19" monitors provided only bigger pixels, but not more then 17"
monitors. Typically native resolution was 1280×1024.
