Sounds right. When I look, I see motion, as they were moving fast.

Another factor may be the glassy smoothness of the water. There was some wind 
ruffle just above the frame, but I chose, 
wisely?, not to include it.

You got it, no flapping at all. Between ground effect lift and the onshore 
breeze, the pelicans do a lot of effortless 
appearing cruising. These are way above the water, but ride the rise form the 
bluffs without flapping.

This was instant adjustment, as they came out from behind a big rock and were 
in view for a second or two. I didn't even 
have time to crank out the zoom, hence the 140 mm focal length on a 75-300 zoom 
and cropping. Try to track, push the button.
