Ken you can't pick on apple for this, its modern commerce, I don't agree
with it but evrything now is designed to be disposable or redundant as
soon as possible so you buy the next product. look at socks, I have some
abcient ones but newer ones just wear out so fast. I personally think
its bad for the environment and society in general as it creates the
feeling of never having anything worthwhile.

Your ipad is no more redundant than your car, it will still do what it
did when you first bought it, is my car redundant because it doesn't
have a dab radio for example.

I don't think apple is perfect but as someone who has to deal with the
headache of BYO (Bring Your Own) devices android is my biggest fear at
the moment for the reasons that make it good i.e open development make
it pretty insecure.

Apple do sell some good stuff but I will admit I am worried that my
current macbook fails because I don't want one of the new ones with
glossy screens and no chance to swap disks etc, but I love my instant on
and other aspects that it annoys me much less than windows, so I will
have to see what I do should that scenario arrive.I use several
operating systems during the day but osx is still my preferred one.

Think for a moment where we would be without Apple, they have changed
the way we interface with technology and shown other companies what is
possible, we mock itunes but what jobs did for the music industry was
amazing, its a shame he is no longer with us because maybe he could have
fixed the stock photograhy situation.

I will repeat I am not an apple fanboy I just know good things when I
see them (Cai is still using his second hand ipad1 daily) but respect
where respect is due - what new innovation has any other tech company
brought recently that had as much impact on daily life, sorry I don't
count windows 8 in that although the upgrade from 7 to 8 was painless
moving from XP 32bit to 8 64 bit is not!
