One session done last night. Another tonight and one Monday night.
I'll pick up my wireless triggers over the weekend. Using the 285HV to
trigger the strobes was 100% successful. A little clutsy as the 285HV
is as big as the camera and a little ungainly hanging off the side as
it is.

I was actually doing a fashion type shoot last night (semi related to
the original contract). Turned out really well. (sorry, no samples). I
did something a little unusual for me. I moved the third light from
the camera axis to behind and to the side of the model. I had that one
setup as an umbrella shoot through and it was sitting next to the
background stand just in position to keep from throwing any light on
the background but did a nice skim light on the legs and dresses. It
lit up all the way to the hair, but the low angle and increased
distance kept the blond hair from going nuclear. This light was dialed
back a lot, but it provided just enough light to give a very nice
accentuation to the shape of the legs and it also created a nice
separation from the background. As the light was at floor level, there
was no shadow cast on the floor. This skim light also worked really
well for B&W shots as it provided a full range of tones across the
skin which really corrected the typical issue of flatness in digital
B&W.

Tonight, I will change things up a little bit, and take the on-camera
285HV and bounce it off the low white ceiling right in front of the
camera. Or into the Flashbender. This will help lift the hair a little
bit and give better modeling to the eye sockets, cheeks and nose.
Because of the ceiling height (and tall model), I'm not getting enough
downward light angle. It wouldn't be a problem if she was seated, but
these are full-length portraits.

I definitely discovered my "eye dee ten tea" error in this whole
thing. I can't remote trigger the strobes with the Sekonic flash meter
which is forcing me to fire a shot every time I want to measure a
light.

Doesn't matter. Having fun, no matter what. The Eye-Fi card is working
great and we're able to almost instantly review images on the iPad. I
typically chimp on the camera LCD, but having the larger and more
accurate display makes a big difference. With studio lighting, it's
the mistakes in light settings where discoveries are made. I live for
those misfires.
