I had a mechanic once tell me that we should all thank the EPA for extended
life of cars. He thought that all the emissions controls added to longevity
and took away from his pocket, as when was the last time you got a tune-up.
Isuspect that tightend tolerances in machining helps too.

Not sure if it is all that abnormal anymore. We traded in one Jeep
pretty early and have no knowledge of its current state of affairs,
but every other Jeep I've owned has far surpassed 200,000 miles
without complaint. My current one is at 160,000 miles and is still
acting like a young tyke. I'm possibly going to by a Jeep Liberty with
4-banger and manual transmission that has 127,000 miles on it. Price
is decent and the condition is excellent.
I'm horribly tempted by the new Prius C. Believe it or not, I actually
fit in it and it's halfway comfy. I'd probably drive it into the
grave, which would likely be two or three decades from now.
