Yes - that's a pretty good and balanced view.
I don't want to fiddle with the bits - but more power to those who do.
It's as good a recreational pursuit as any.
But I always though that from the earliest days, the PC was the better office
machine - set up properly it would bang away a basic task all day so long as
no-one fiddled a setting ignorantly. A Mac was originally three times the price
but more user flexible (not configuration flexible). Horses for courses.
The gap has shorted a lot but we're all dedicated.
It gets to be one of those Ford vs. GM, Fender vs. Gibson, Canon vs Nikon
arguments. A lot of noise but a lot of wasted ewnergy.
As a local president of the Skeptic's Society once said to on be of my students
about some bizarre alternative therapy - 'If it works for you, it doesn't
matter if it makes sense. Just do it.'
