We have four PC at home, one for entertainment, I seldom open it except the
few times I upgrade the HD. Two PC for my sons, I seldom touch them and they
know nothing about changing hardware. The PC I use was a core 2 duo, I have
not change anything for 6 years except adding/upgrade HD. There are not much
fiddling I need to do except playing with lots of free softwares, to me it
is the fun part, there are lots of free and low cost system, video, audio
and photo software available. For people don't have the need or know how
like my sons, they just stick with a box I built without any need to take
care of the extras.
I believe the upgrade cost of self building block is much cheaper than
buying a new Mac every few years.
