62¢ US, in my case. That's before shipping and tax, as folks usually do such
comparisons. I just saw a Sandisk 256 GB
for less than that.

Small computers are at an awkward point right now. I was checking for a son
what might replace his netbook with little
increase in size/weight but more performance. Netbook+s have split at the
low/reasonable price points, with either
inadequate sized SSDs or large, SATA II HDs. They may be SATA II, but are still
5400 rpm HDs. Neither is really right,
so the combos may be a good solution for now.

The SSDs are really a better solution, overall, for portables, with lower
direct power consumption and less heat load.
Where mine would run the fan audibly a lot even idling, with the SSD it
doesn't. Running the HDTune test didn't speed
the fan up, there is just the tiniest whisper of warm, not hot, air drifting
out. The case bottom is quite noticeably
cooler.

Read speeds for the new SSD in my little folder average 148 MB/S. Access time,
0.2 ms.

Speedier, Cool Moose
