Things like Prozac are a Serotonin reuptake inhibitor - they leave the
Serotonin in the brain a bit longer than usual. Hence the lift.
Prednisolone is a Cortisol substitute - Cortisol is controlled by ACH, released
by the pituitary. It's part of the adrenaline rush effect in the 'fight or
flight' response. At high levels, Distress, but at lower levels, Eustress, the
motivational force.
I sometimes wonder if we're denied such things because they have serious long
term side effects, or because there is a 'moral' response - you can't use
something that makes you feel THAT good!
