There have been people that shoehorned the V-12 BMW motor into a 3-series
(earlier, smaller 3-series too, like the E30 and E36). That's about a
5-6L, but once turboed it has the power of a 9L motor (at least!)
The downside is it gets pretty nose-heavy at that point. Tends to want to
push too much.
