Dr. Flash says it may be so but he can't be bothered enough to worry
about it. I've been reading about the 40-80 or 30-90 or other charging
rules for years. For years I've also been ignoring them.

My only laptop is a Dell Vostro 1500... the infamous Krappy Kolor
laptop. It's big and heavy, has a 17" screen and oversized, 9 cell
battery. I bought it in 2007 as a refurb from Dell and I suspect it was
about 3 years old when I got it. I don't know what usage it was
subjected to before I got it (probably a corporate return) but since
2007 it has been attached to the power plug 24 hours/day except when
we're traveling. Even then it's plugged in about 12 hours/day.

So, I clearly don't operate it to maximize it's life but it's been
running that way for more than 6 years. If it failed tomorrow I'd buy
an ebay replacement for $22 (includes shipping) and move on. Or, if
concerned about cheap batteries buy a supposedly genuine Dell 9 cell
battery from ebay for $60 and then move on. Tell me again why I should
constantly monitor my battery charge.

Dr. Flash (where good NiMH batteries are required)
