Philippe,
   BTU= British Thermal Units. In its original form it was the energy
equivalent of 12 Stones moved a distance of 7 Rods at 3 miles per hour.
Later it was the energy used to heat 1 pound of water, 1 degree F. Now, in
SI Units, it is about 1055 joules. See how much easier that is to
understand.
