Thanks, I just tried reaching the rear dial from the front with my index
finger. I was surprised when I did it that I found my thumb (without
even thinking about it) grasping the dial from the back. I suspect that
my real problem was locating the control which has always seemed much
farther to the left than I expect. I found I can easily locate the rear
dial from the front by just moving my index finger to the left a bit.
Once there I think my brain gets the signal about where to tell the
thumb to move to find the back of the dial. Some more practice is in order.

The problem with operating the playback button isn't so much being a
left-eyed shooter as it is trying to reach over the top edge of the
screen. The button is so close to the screen and so recessed relative
to the screen that the button can't easily be operated. Being
right-eyed might help but not by much. I'll have to check the E-M1's
controls to see if they're any better for thumb/index finger
focus/shutter control.
