I am talking about the E-M5.  Turns out that the FL-600r can act as a
master, so if you have one on the shoe (or on a bracket with a cable) it
can talk to a group of other FL-XXr flashes.  At least that way you'd get
decent light coming from mostly straight-on in addition to the positional
flashes.  The popup works as a master as well, and the only convenience is
that you already have it.

The manual is, as you suggest, somewhat less than intuitive.  Or
informative.  Or really usefulitive.
