Brian, you should just bite the bullet and upgrade to something more modern. We 
all get comfortable with the old pair of shoes, but at some point there are 
holes in them, the soles are falling off etc. Windows XP was a good OS, but it 
is obsolete today. I don't know if Microsoft still provides updates for it; if 
not, then you are very vulnerable (unless the computer is not connected to the 
net, of course).

I am a Mac guy, but at work I have Windows 7 (and my wife has it on her laptop) 
and it really is not bad at all.
