That's interesting.  The wifi chipset is Atheros 5007 and is B/G only
(laptop is probably ~6 years old now).  The router is bang up-to-date so it
could be a similar problem.   I have a newish (B/G/N) dongle and I will
send my son back to his place with that as a backup.

We HAVE now upgraded his laptop to Win7 and installed the latest drivers -
all is working well chez-moi, tomorrow he has to try back at his home.

ps - Chris - the BT HomeHub has DNS changes completely blocked
