I should have checked before sending. See the following two links for some

The second link has an example of the solid red mount, and suggests that its
introduction ties to the consent decree by which Kodak agreed to allow third
parties to process Kodachrome. The consent decree was signed in 1954 (see
http://www.kodak.com/ek/US/en/Our_Company/History_of_Kodak/Milestones_-_chro
nology/1930-1959.htm ) which would date the red solid mounts to no earlier
than 1954.

Piers ... thank you very much for your research.

I have a solid red mount [not one with just a red border] Kodachrome featuring my mother holding me in her arms looking at a large giraffe at Edinburgh [ ??] zoo. Judging by my body size, the slide was taken in the summer of 1950. The year earlier I would have been measurably smaller and by 1951 would have been larger. I have another slide with a solid red mount, again of me, looking a size larger than in the zoo photo which I can reliably date to the summer of 1951. Any suggestion that I was a 1951 size no earlier than 1954 is not plausible.

I also have a solid red mount slide of a floral clock taken at the Festival of Britain which was held in the summer of 1951.

Thus, the myth that red solid mounts date to no earlier than 1954 is busted :-) ................ where's Adam and Jamie ?

Regardless of dating, these 60+ year old Kodachromes have not lost one iota of their colour or subject detail. They look to be as good as the day they were processed.

But where were your Kodachromes processed? The consent decree applied only
to US, I assume.

John, I can't answer the direct question, but I can tell you that I have
Kodachrome slides annotated 1957-1959 which have a red border as well as
"View from this side" - perhaps an interim style.

I believe I have seen solid red mounts which would be from 1954-1955.

The between dates should have read 1950 and 1955.

Does anyone know the year when Kodak changed the colour of the
Kodachrome cardboard slide mounts from the solid red "View from the
other side" to the more familiar white "View from this side" mounts?

My best guess is between 1950 and 1950 but having an exact year will
help me date some of the many slides I have inherited from my parents.
