This is one of the reason I went full frame back then. Plus banding in the darker areas at ISO from 400 up.
Yet, I remain so fond of my first digital camera :-)
Of its ergonomics, its still relevant features, and its wonderful kit lens.

This is a 100% pixel image (heavily cropped) of an exported TIFF (no
compression) from Lightroom 5.4 which shows the noise pattern in Adobe
processed DMC-L1 files.

The sharpness is cranked up and all forms of noise-reduction turned
off. Granted, I can skew the settings to get usable files, but this is
the inherent noise pattern which I've never been able to solve with
any Adobe converter.

Note that this pattern does not show up in Picasa or Silkypix. Nor
does the pattern show up in Lightroom with other camera files.
