     My landline went out again this morning, and fortunately I was able to 
convince 19CL that it was a temperature-related problem that needed to be 
traced down early in the morning.  A tech arrived at 0830 and he quickly found 
that the gas-filled lightning protection fuses (called "carbons") were at 
fault.  He replaced them and everything is now working fine.
