We travel often by train from Charlotte to NYC. It takes exactly 12 hours
and we get off the train right in Penn Station a couple of blocks from
Times Square. By the time you add up parking charges (none at Amtrak),
getting through security, baggage fees, taxi fares to and from airports,
etc, Amtrak seems like a bargain. You have plenty of room and can get up
and walk around. The food is really very good. We take the Crescent which
goes from New Orleans to NYC and I'd love to do that whole trip sometime.
