You should try the Paperwhite from Amazon. It's just like reading on paper.
Not backlit. I have the Kindle HD Fire which is backlit and I use it for
catching up on e-mails or looking up stuff when I'm away from the house. I
do not use it for reading books. The backlight would drive me crazy. I
have a couple of Kindles that I use for reading. One is the oldest Kindle
that never had backlighting or anything else. The reason I bought that one
is that, if you disconnect it from the internet, the battery will last two
weeks or more. I've carried it to places without electricity and it hasn't
failed me yet. The newest Paperwhites are not quite as good battery-wise
because there are a lot of other features built-in, but I still think it
would last at least a week. My Paperwhite Kindle has hundreds of books on
it and I usually read one a night.
