Most small lithium-ion batteries are either 3.7 volts or 7.4 volts. The 3.7 volt batteries are used in very small items like phones and small P&S cameras. Since their voltage is less than the 5 volts supplied by a USB port they can be charged from a USB port (with the right charger). The 7.4 volt batteries are what you find in our larger cameras. They're made from two 3.7 volt cells in series. USB voltage won't cut it for these.

Oops. I thought I might could use it with the camera batteries, too. The
reviews mentioned charging camera batteries but I guess different ones? It
will be worth it for the phone and Kindle, though. The phone goes dead
every day. The Kindle Paperwhite would probably last the whole trip but
not the Fire. I do have the car outlet attachment for my Leica battery
chargers but we will be traveling in a school bus. Do those have cigarette
lighter sockets? I don't know!

I just ordered two. That should work for my phone, Kindle, and battery

Whoa, hold up a minute there. You do realize that they are only for 5v USB
devices, like phones?

A 5v output can't charge your 7.4v Leica batteries. I suspect there are
similar devices for camera batteries.

Also, there's no free lunch; you can't stuff more power into a smaller
package using the same battery tech. Your Leica batteries M8/M batteries
are 1860 mAh and the M 240 1800 mAh.

Average that to 1830, lose a few % for exaggerated claims, losses in
transfer, etc. and you can probably count on about five full charges from
an 11000 mAh auxiliary battery - IF it is a different one that works with
your batteries.
