Thanks, Piers!  Your information is invaluable.  How could you tell the guy
had sold the scanner before?  He included some scans that he had done that
looked pretty good to me.  It does sound like I might need Doug's generous
offer of the cord.  I'll contact you off-list, Doug!

I will definitely go to the Yahoo group and see what I can learn.  The
scanner has already been sent by UPS.
