Yes, in the military there is a silly mix of units. For the RAF distance 
travelled (or to travel) is nautical miles, horizontal separation from cloud 
likewise; but visibility is measured in kilometres and altitude in feet, along 
with vertical separation from cloud.  Oh, and atmospheric pressure, that used 
to be expressed in millibars, is now in hectopascals.

But I think that CC was taking Philippe's question just a little too l 
literally . . .
