Olympus made a lot of really excellent macro/close-up equipment. Among it are
three different close-up lighting options.

All are powered by a single model of power supply, and could be used with TTL,
of the film auto exposure. For digital, you lose the TTL, exposure, but they
may be set manually.

1. There's a straight ring flash, the T10. With the Ring Cross Filter Pol,
direct reflections from the flash are suppressed, so it might be right for what
Kerstin is looking to do.

2. A reflected ring flash, for very soft, flat lighting, the T8, which is
supposed to eliminate ring shaped reflections for a shadowless image.

3. Small flash heads that mount on the lens, the T28.

With a fabricated thingie to rest on forehead, or some such, to regulate
distance, T10 with Ring polarizer or T8 may well give good results.

CH's close-up flash adapter, or something similar, is another possibility.
