When I read that the 10,000 dpi Reflecta scanner took 7 minutes to do a 35mm 8-bit scan I thought maybe the USB 2.0 interface was the limiting factor. But it's not. Assuming 9 MB/s transfer speed (what I get reading an SD card on a USB 2.0 port) the transfer time is only 2.5 minutes for a 1,350 MB image.

He thought it was then fast enough that the mechanical speed of the
scanner becomes the limiting factor. I tend to concur, as the scanner
runs smoothly across the frame, with no stops for the interface/software
to catch up. I can't imagine it has more than one physical speed. I have
no current plans to go to SCSI on the 64 bit machine.
