When I see this image of the woman stooping over to wash the dishes I'm reminded of a story that I heard so long ago that I can't testify as to its source or veracity or the accuracy of my memory in retelling it.

Anyhow, the story, as I recall it, was of a tribe in Africa where the older women had a permanent stoop. Supposedly this was from sweeping their huts. All of the women used a form of broom that had a very short handle. It was used one-handed stooped over as is the woman washing the dishes. Had they never envisioned a two-handed broom with a long handle to avoid stooping? Why do these Vietnamese not have something akin to a sink or at least some higher level work surface?
