I didn't read the text - too long for now sorry - but the pix is just plain nothingness to me, except that it is clean ...

Another variation on the traditional Kephart pattern.

This from a thrift store butcher knife - "ForgeCraft High Carbon" -
that's been kicking about in my 'to-do' box for over 10-years.
Just knew I'd have a use for it someday. ;o) Anyway, in staying with
the surgeons orders* to avoid any strenuous activity, I've been putzing
in my workshop as you can no doubt tell.

Probably of interest to bushcrafters or re-enactors only: Rather than
loose the original taper to the blade, I shortened this one from the
rear. After tempering the shank and redrilling holes, I fitted new
handles of black walnut (from one our trees) reshaped the blade to
proper spear point and blued/blackened the blade. Obvious deviations
from a 'true' Kephart are the rounded rectangular cross-section of my
grips - his were almost cylinder round - that and the square butt.
  Kephart's was rounded.

*Just for fun, I had a mini-stroke last month and they discovered 75%
blockage in both Carotid arteries. Had one stent put in earlier this
month and the second one this past Wednesday. Both went well, and as of
today I'm up and about (slowly) and feeling great... better'n new in
fact. I'll admit - it does feel strange to celebrate your 83rd birthday in a hospital bed. Anyway, finished this knife this morning. I like it.
Think I'll keep this one for myself. Now to make a sheath for it.
  Cheers to all, Rick
