Thunderbird does the same for emails. It also warns that the link may be a scam if the text of the link seem not to bear a reasonable relationship with the actual link.

What is that supposed to do for you?  The only think I can think if is to show 
you the contents of the link before you activate it.  But Firefox and Internet 
Explorer both will show you the contents of a link in the lower left corner of 
the window when you hover the mouse over the link.  No need for copy and paste.
