I recall the you spent a fair amount of time in Tampa. Too bad you didn't see a pileated woodpecker while you were here... as large as a big crow and able to chip wood out of a tree like it was a man with hammer and chisel!!

We're in Palmetto, Florida right now, just south of Tampa, waiting for our South Carolina house to be finished. I haven't seen them yet this year (only been here a week) but there is a pair of pileated woodpeckers that live somewhere nearby. Look for the trees with the really big nesting holes in them. :-)

I like the colour and depth of those, Moose. But I am most impressed
with your catch of a "Woody”! I have only heard woodpeckers, never
seen one that close.

We spent a few days in Henry Cowell Redwoods SP last week.
Wednesday, we took a walk in the Santa Cruz mountains. Nothing like
Mike's No. Cascade hikes, but a pleasant 5+ mile ramble. Lots of
variety, as the topography, climate, etc. vary, the vegetation
changes a lot over small areas.

Here's an eclectic sample of some of the things that caught my eye.
