As Chuck had posted though one can get away with less mag for same framing on MFT compared to FF, one still does not have the working distance of a 120mm lens on FF compared to 60mm on mFT.

Agreed. Working distance is only a function of lens FL, not format.

As you have been using a long zoom with or w/o extension perhaps the 5 axis IBIS works fine as the cam knows the focusing distance.

It does indeed work well.

Curiously Oly reports the focusing distance in exif but Panny does not. I also thus wonder whether Panny cams have access to the focusing distance for any reason--flash, IS or anything.

You may be making a mistake in assuming that everything the camera knows automagically goes in EXIF. :-) Who knows who gets to program that part of the firmware, and what directives they may, or may not, get?

Universal EXIF tags do include SubjectDistance, but neither O nor P use it, and Panny's Maker extensions don't have a tag for it as of last Oct.

Panny lenses do indeed report focal distance, as it is recorded in EXIF by Oly bodies shooting with Panny lenses. That means it is available to Panny bodies, if they want it. As the GX7 IBIS works well, with a vast range of FLs and distances, I must conclude that it uses the lens focal distance data.
