I've been a bit remiss with my PAW the last month or so, kinda slipped into
a PESO...

Sheri and I spent the past week in New Orleans. My first trip, her first
visit since 1980. We agreed on the fact that it's not really our cup of tea
and won't be back. Did not feel safe walking around the French Quarter,
especially with a camera bag (even the disguised one). Plus, Bourbon Street
smelled like a frat house after a Saturday night party, with the addition
of Eau de Urine. So, not many photos from there. I got a few, which I'll
get posted over the weekend.

However, we did go visit the WWII museum. I was prepared to take some artsy
airplane photos and just take in the exhibits. Suddenly I realized there
were quite a few actual vets visiting that day. The Tina Nathan voice that
now lives in my head started nagging, "Hey, stupid. Anyone can take
hardware photos. There's the REAL story. Those are the interesting
photos". So, I approached the first one and his daughter. I introduced
myself, thanked him for his service, and asked if I could take a photo. I
assured them it was for private use, and would be happy to email them a
copy. They agreed. It got easier after that. I will get stories to add to
the captions after I email the photos.

One of my favorites is the guy with the B-17 in the background. He had been
a radioman on a B-17 over Europe. He was there with his son, pointing out
the various parts of the bomber hanging in the gallery, and describing the
differences between his plane and the one there. I realized that his photo
needed to be with the plane in the background. I know I focused on his
face, but it must have been a bit of the edge-of-frame WA distortion that
made less sharp that I had hoped. (12-50mm at 12, I think). But overall, I
got the shot I had envisioned.

The other shot is from a week earlier. I work a Doctor Who convention in
Chicago every year over Thanksgiving weekend, running the two dye-sub
printers in the photo-op room. I saw one of the guests, dressed as a
Cyberman from early in the original series, holding his cellphone up to his
face, either to take a selfie or to take a photo of the full-sized TARDIS
we had as a backdrop. Either way, it was a fun photo.

Enjoy. C&C always encouraged.
