I've not done this with eyes, but would consider treating the reflection/specular highlight supression problem
like one of Dean's reflective insectoid critters.

Would consider using the x-pol setup available for OM or make one with polarizing film available for cheap with pol on the lens--would set as to negate most but not all reflections and have some diffuse other light for fill as well. Victom (oops, subject) should have chin stabilized with forehead rest as well looking at a target. (like at optometrist office) Could focus stack as well (yes, easy enough with scanned velvia if need be) to avoid diffraction softening. Cam with flash on ?bracket like LeppII (on tripod) to get proper side lighting.
