Good selection.

Thanks!

The ZS40 does an admirable job.

It's a partnership. ;-)

Is 129mm full tele on that camera?

Yes, but that's actual FL. 35 mm eq. is 720 mm. Fully wide is 24 mm. Quite the zoom range. It's fun to be able to capture decent sized images of waterfowl out on a little lake with a pocket camera - and have nice WA and decent CU. Throw in an EVF, and it's pretty amazing.

Not a low light camera. Things on that tiny sensor start to fall apart as the ISO rises, and the aperture falls at the long end, so shutter speeds go down.

Particularly liked Holy Flaming Farts. That’s a good catch. Memorable image.

And again, thanks! This particular image isn't very good at 100%. A couple of others also @ 720 mm and ISO above base are cleaner, and the lower ISOs are nicer, too. None of it is µ4/3, let alone FF, but amazingly good and really useful. Just think back a few years. A pocket camera would have captured a speck far away!

The IS is no slouch, either. The old FF rule says 1/720 sec. Multiply by the format conversion factor of 5.6, and you need 1/4000 sec., hand held without IS! And yet, this is taken at 1/125th.

Fortunately, the Raw files allow one to do a lot to improve on the JPEGs. In a viewer such as FastStone, nothing looks good, as it's either a JPEG directly or the embedded JPEG in the Raw file. I was shocked at first, until I opened Raw files in a Raw converter.

What if the Hokey Pokey *IS* what it's all about?
