Amazing indeed. Very odd (bizarre?) SS choice as well.

Exactly. A Mode, with Auto ISO, is a sort of semi Program mode, with the camera choosing both SS and ISO. The other Oly and Panny bodies I've used tend to a middle of the road approach that doesn't let SS get too long. I've had the impression that the orig. E-M5 even takes FL in to consideration, as well, as it does such a good job.

To be clear, this isn't a problem but in a certain, fairly narrow, range of
brightness, between bright and dim.

I could have Mysets for various minimum ISOs, I suppose. But that does defeat one purpose of setting my defaults so I can just pick up the camera, point and shoot when an evanescent opportunity presents itself. iAuto would have worked fine for this particular shot, but tends to overexpose highlights, to my taste, in many situations. I wonder if Exposure Shift (Menu K) overrides iAuto - - - Nope.

The Panny ZS40 seems expressly biased to avoid any ISO over 400, if it can.
Which is a good approach for that tiny sensor.

Fuji and Nykon allow user limit to slowest allowable SS (as does Magic Lantern
Canyon hack).

I'd rather have smarts in the Auto ISO. And I'm used to that.

Sony does not and I don't remember if Panny does, but I think not. Oly doesn't
allow auto ISO in manual mode--just like Panny.

I know that bothers some folks. Not me, as I use Manual so seldom, and when I do, selecting all the parameters carefully makes sense to me. Wouldn't hurt, though, with Auto ISO easy to turn on and off, giving in effect two sum modes, full manual and partial manual.

Let us know what they say.

Indeed I will. I'm curious whether others have reported the same problem, whether it's a glitch that will require a firmware fix or a problem with my particular body.
