It might also be the mirror bouncing after is gets back to normal lower 
position.
My R4 is extremely silent for instance, and I know Leica had worked on the 
noise issue.
Apart from the D700, the noisiest I've had was my Pentax Sp
My OM2n was fine.
A later analog M of course is better.
