Thanks for your thoughts, Paul. It is about a 5 hour drive to the old home town where my parents are buried. I haven't been there in some time, either.

I have always admired Nathan's faithfulness in visiting the graves of his
parents. This year, after losing my wife at the end of February, it was a
race against time and the weather to get a marker and flowers in place by
Mother's Day. Today, with three days to spare, I finished the task.

There is quite a difference in the imposing markers and statuary that
Nathan captures on his visits, and the simple, easy maintenance designs of
a modern, rural cemetery. But, it is close at hand, and contains a lot of
friends and acquaintances that I recall as I walk about. And it is
perpetually maintained. Donna has joined two other family members whom she
loved very much. And all the kids have to do when I'm gone is to add a
date plate.

Lovely photo, Jim. I'm torn about cemeteries, and I supposed my thinking
might change if it was my spouse there...

The cemetery where my parents and paternal grandparents are buried is about
an hour away. I haven't been back since Dad's funeral - part of my mind
tells me that the box in the ground is not where they are, that they are
above me and in my heart and memories. But it's also the earthly touchstone
to your loved ones.... I need to get out there soon just to make sure that
the stone was carved properly with Dad's dates. Sheri's family is buried
about 30 minutes away, and we really haven't gone to see them that much,
either.

But that's me. I can understand why someone goes to visit and spend time.
It's a place to focus attention and memories. And if that brings solace to
you, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
