You are correct - I have been mistaken in my understaning of the meaning
of spendthrift until now and should have used miserly. I fell into the
trap of making an assumption, I expect that's not the only new thing I
learn today, later I will be flashing a new graphic card for my newer
mac pro :-)

one to print I think once I have got things sorted, having had to be
spendthrift for a while I am now stocking up on inks, paper and currently
pimping a new (to me) workstation
