Sounds like shutter lock, not good in a 2S.  Oily magnet would make
shutter stay open, this is not the case by your description. Could be bad mirror governor. Hopefully it's loose bottom cover screws.

The 357 high drain battery is best, but that doesn't sound like your
problem. A dirty magnet,  trigger switch  could do it or another
adjustment.  If it has sat for a long time likely would benefit from
a CLA with John anyway--then will be smooth as silk.  John had an
unfortunate family event  and would check with him when he returns.
