I agree with your sentiment entirely, Rick, but I know it's futile to try
to ban the Confederate flag. It's too pervasive, and we've got this whole
free speech thing.
It was a shock, however, when the Supreme Court declined to hear the Texas
case from a bunch of confederates who wanted that flag on their license
plates. I felt sure free speech would raise its head again; I was wrong.
But then a few more such incidents as Charleston, where the flag and the
act are so directly connected, and we just might see a lot stronger
sentiment against the old stars and bars. Latter-day Johnny Rebs have been
flying below the radar, as it were, for a long time. It's good to see them
glowing on the screen.
