Our old friends, Henning & Tanya (he's a fellow E-M1 user) dropped by for an

As they left, I could not resist snapping a quick & dirty shot of his new ride,
as it sat in front of our house.

Nice angle/shot.

I drove a '71 911 as my daily car for several years in the late '70-early '80s. A great car in many ways, surprisingly drivable and reliable and I learned a lot. Once you've balanced 6 carb throats, twin SUs are a snap. :-)

OTOH, it's very low to the ground, so I couldn't see anything in traffic. Rather small and almost cramped inside. This really came home to me when I hadn't driven it in some time and the fellow I had sold it to gave me a ride to show off all the stuff he had 'upgraded'.

And it was noisy. Not as loud inside as my neighbor's 914-6, with the intake right behind your ear and exhaust not much further away. The Audi 5000CS Turbo Quattro that replaced it handled significantly better.

When our Directors of Operations for Germany was visiting and rode in it, he asked me why anyone would want such a noisy, uncomfortable car. When I was visiting there, he drove the big Mercedes on the Autobahn at up to 125 mph (yes, I clocked km markers). My boss, sitting in the back seat with me, asked very quietly why he was drifting slightly back and forth in the lane. I replied it was to keep his sight lines clear, as he had to see far ahead at that speed. It didn't calm Gordon down much. ;-)

Yes, I know, the GT3 is a far, far better car than my ancient pumpkin, but much the same in those characteristics. Just goes much faster, .001% of the time.

I'm afraid if some one gave me a GT3, I'd sell it. Then what to do? Get my '95 Olds convertible restored to better than new? New Bimmer convertible? Too bad it isn't worth a Bentley convertible. :-)
