[OM] OT: iphone battery replacement

My old iPhone 5's battery is showing signs of needing replacement soon. The
question is, should I do it myself, or take it to a repair place?

Kids with tools and instructions are available on Amazon for $10-$30. I'm sure
I could do it myself – I've repaired and replaced components in many laptops in
my old job. However, I've read numerous customer reviews claiming that they got
a used or defective battery.

Several local "i-repair" shops will replace an iPhone battery for about $50.
I've heard, but not confirmed that Apple basically gives you a refurb phone and
charges you about $250. No, thanks to the latter. But since the cheapest price
on Amazon for a guaranteed brand-new battery is $30, maybe it's just worth it
to take it to the repair place. Anybody have experience with this?
