Dr NiMH,

I checked my eneloops and they are labeled 1900 mAH, which make them substantially weaker than the 5-8 year old Duracells I have that are well above 2500 mAH. Don't know what that means, but perhaps it's like automotive HP ratings, that are often not fact based.

The charger that came with the Eneloops is labeled to charge AA's at 300mA. The Duracell charger that is, like me, much older charges at 360mA as the label indicates.

There are adjustable chargers? Guess it's time for me to come out from under my rock and get with the times. Where do I find these rechargeable battery equivalent of unicorns? And your comment about slow charging is interesting. Didn't know you wrote chinese. (Don't try to explain, it will cause my head to explode.)

The eneloop chargers that shipped with the cells, in the costco deals have varied quite a bit.The very original charger which was a universal 110-240V charger was better than the subsequent 110V only charger. Costco did not change the sku.
And the chargers they shipped changed again after that.
The third party chargers that you can set the charge current yourself are generally better as you can do a quick charge in an emergency and set a less aggressive charge otherwise.Interestingly charging NiMh cells very slowly, often does not work well, as the DeltaV peak/rollover detection points are not as pronounced with low current ( less internal heating).

I got a pack of ( its been a few months, so forgive me if memory is shorting
out) ten AA's and 4 AAA's and a slick little charger for something like
$20-25 at the local Costco.

Well, with two weddings coming up in quick succession, and the old
batteries pretty well worn out from the lousy charger, I decided it
was time to upgrade my supply of batteries. Thanks to the Amazzon,
I've got 12 eneloops and a charger jetting their way to my domicile.

It's the simple things in life...

We're up to the 4th generation of these things now. While Panasonic
now has a higher power version of them, the recharge life is a quarter
of the 4th gens. And according to the tests, the 4th gens are still
pretty hunky dory in my flashes.

It's looking to be a pretty good year for the photography business. I
think the IRS will like me this year.
