I like the old one better but I don't think you tweaked it as I suggested. I'll be more specific if you're using ACR. In ACR boost the clarity and saturation sliders to +30 or +40 (I prefer 40). Then readjust the black level down to 0 or even a but further. Optionally, set the highlights slider all the way to the left. I say optionally since the effect is not very strong. This will keep and slightly heighten the contrast in the clouds while at the same time brightening and enhancing the color in the foreground as though the sun is trying to break through.

FWIW I am in the middle of reading John Preeble's book, "Glencoe, A
Story of the Massacre". What an amazingly complex and fluid web of war
and alliance. Rannoch Moor was a key connector.

I couldn't help msyelf but play a little bit with the first one in ACR.
   Pull the black level down to zero and then boost the clarity and
saturation and it sings a more vibrant tune.
