When I talk about the telecoms, I'm really not referring to cable TV
or variants. While you may be getting your internet from the local
telephone company or the cable tv company, those are the "last mile"
providers. Whether DSL, Cable Modem or Wireless, these companies
provide the basic access to the world wide web which can be bundled
with other services and offerings which may may include television.

The whole "Cable TV" model is dated and is nearing the end. Another
five years and almost all non-daytime-tv content will be on-demand.
Companies like Netflix are an example of the future, but companies
like Netflix will die by the same sword they live by. Meanwhile,
Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Yahoo continue to build powerful
relationships with the telecoms by working with them, not against
them. Instead of flying the middle finger, they try to make things
work for everybody.
