Last week’s blog is dominated by my trip to wonderful Vienna although there are a few
Alicante pics as well. I have selected images that did not “fit” in the gallery that I
posted the other day, but that perhaps give you a better impression of my trip to this wonderful
city:

The first one brings back recent memories. On the way East last month, our flight from Philadelphia to Portland, Maine was delayed, then cancelled. No announcements of what one was to do were forthcoming at first, so more experienced USAir fliers knew where the obscurely located service desk (now American) was were all ahead of us. Fortunately, I called the 800 service number quickly, and got on the first flight in the morning. The people in front of the line got better/closer hotels, but not all got on the early flight.

The line was served by four agents, so we were in it for maybe an hour. The hour plus wait for the motel shuttle and the half hour drive made it all much longer. We did have a nice, clean room and comfy bed, 'though not near home. And we missed half a day with Bob and Joan.

Apparently, USAir was long famous for poor service, cancelled flights, and so on. By the time we flew back a month later, American had finished rolling USAir into their brand and operations. You'd think it would take a long time to erase the USAir traditions, but I have to say that our flights back were flawless, pushing off on time or slightly early and arriving early, and with friendly, helpful service at all times.

As an inveterate watcher of the passing countryside, I did miss the GPS display of our location on VirginAmerica planes. As I recall, our last JetBlue flight had one, but it wasn't very good.
